Skinning a 'Roo

Kangaroo Stew is lovely! We eat all different bits of the kangaroo. Kangaroo tail stew is one of our favourites, though some kids reckon 'pudding' is lovely! (Pudding is the kangaroo guts, liver, heart and everything wrapped up in the stomach)

Here are some photos of Greg skinning a kangaroo so we can make it into stew at RAIDOC day.

Hang upside down....

The first thing we do is hang the kangaroo upside down. We usually hang it from a tree.

We then need to cut off its privates if it is a boy! We sometimes make these into necklaces.

Skin it! Then we need to take the skin and fur off. Greg cut the kangaroo down the middle, then used his knife to cut the skin off. We have to be careful not to cut into the insides.
Gut it.... When all the skin is off, we take the guts out. It gets a bit smelly here! Greg likes to show all the kids this bit! We can eat the guts too. We make something called 'pudding'. It's delicious!
Chop it... Now its time to cut bits off. Greg is cutting the ribs off here.
Carve it, then cook it!
Finally, the arms and legs come off. All the different bits are now ready to be cut up and put into a stew. Yum!
